Timeshare presentations -- does anyone know where/how can I sign up for free hotel?
Q. I've heard about this timeshare thing, where you go for a free vacation as a potential buyer of timeshare. I know about listening/watching couple hours of presentation/sales but I don't mind. I'd like to try this free accomodation any way, anywhere in Canada or US.

A. Go to trendwest.com and check it out. I know a cheap way to go to Disneyland (California) is to sign up for their presentation. They give you weekend accomodations and you can negotiate Disneyland tickets.

I am hoping to find a cheap/free trip to Las Vegas (by attending timeshare presentations) ?
Q. I have heard a lot about free trips/hotel stays for attending time share presentations. Does anyone know of any of these that I could look into? I would also be interested for other areas. (I live in BC so would be interested in Whistler, Penticton, etc.)

A. The problem with these presentations are you are at their mercy almost the entire time. You go to more than one presentation, a very very very high sales pitch. You visit various offerings. A two-hour presentation is more like four or more. So what you have left is you provide you own meals, you provide any transportation to/from the hotel site they chose which is usually not in the gaming district, etc I would rather pay my way and be in control

Am I required to sit through a timeshare presentation?
Q. I will be receiving a voucher for a free two night hotel stay from the charity I am donating my car to. In reading the terms and conditions, I noted that there will be a timeshare presentation at any of the 38 resorts I am to chose from. Would I be required to attend? The terms and conditons do not say I am required to attend. On what basis? It is not in the T&C.
Asked by Storm - Wed Dec 9 16:46:15 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There's no such thing as "free" in the world of timeshares. If you go for the stay, do not be surprised if you're ushered into a timeshare presentation (even if the T&C do not say so).

Does Mexico have a law that only allows resorts to make a timeshare pitch on the first day?
Q. I recently stayed at an H10 resort in Mexico and attended one of their timeshare presentations. They repeatedly said that I needed to make a decision then and there because a Mexican law prohibits them from making me an offer or allowing me to negotiate with them after my first day there. I've done some searching but can't seem to find any laws like what they described. Is there any truth to it or was this just an aggressive, potentially fraudulent claim?

A. Hola! haaahhhaaa ha ha. Talk about silly selling tactics eh? Wow. There are no laws. They are just trying to pressure you. Oh and by the way, they can make any kind of 'potentially fraudulent comments' all they want. They are in Mexico and you are at their presentation. This is how they weed out those who are potential buyers from those who are just there for the free stuff.

A. It will be a high pressure sales presentation that will start very soft and courteous and will wrap you around like a snake. After a couple of hours you will know what i m talking about. NEVER give signs of interest or they will pressure you even more. Make sure you ask the Lent of the presentation and when you are half way tell them that you have something to do right after the time is done or they will try to make you stay even longer than what they say.

A. You can get coupon books to various attractions and restaurants in almost every store here, just wander into a grocery store, Walmart, or Perkins restaurant and you'll find a stack of coupon books in the lobby. As for interesting sites, I recommend Titanic: The Experience, Arabian Nights or Medieval Times, Downtown Disney, and Old Town. Also, a great day or night out would be to visit the Beach CLub, Yacht Club, and/or Boardwalk at Disney, all three are connected around a lagoon and it's a nice walk (or you can rent bikes/surreys) with restaurants and shops and such.

Q. I went to a timeshare presentation and in the end I received a couple voucher's to send for two trips, both paying airfare and hotel stay. I am in need of some money. Can I sell them? Will I, or whoever buys that from me, be in trouble? Thanks.

A. Usually they are "tagged" to you, and you alone, and in the fine print you'll probably see that they are not transferable. The problem can arise when the person you sell them to tries to get on the plane, with a ticket in your name, but with a different name & picture on the driver's license...they just might end up with some free room & board per the state.

A. Total waste of valuable vacation time. It is like summer school. Lots of pressure and not worth it. The shows they give you tickets for are same day tickets for the standard Vegas shows. You can buy those tickets at ticket broker kiosks all over the Strip half price. So you will waste a whole day being pressured to buy something no one wants and you will get tickets worth about $20. *

A. Not sure exactly if the economy has stopped the timeshare industry in its tracks with the giveaways like free stays and trips. They'll probably want to pre-qualify you significantly before doing anything for you. Your best bet is to find a location that you like from the RCI directory. Then, call the resorts directly. Ask for the sales department and see if they have any promotions available.

To go or not to go on a three day vacation that includes a timeshare presentation?
Q. We have no interest in actually buying anything but are considering going on the trip. My main problem is that you won't know where you're staying until you get there. I don't want to drive the 6 hours to make the trip and then be stuck in a dump of a place. They say you'll stay in a three-star hotel. What are your thoughts on this? You might want to book yourself an inexpensive hotel in the area and make it a full week outing it this a place you really want to visit. If it is not a place that you really want to visit then don't go. Why would you subject yourself to the hassle just for a free hotel room? BTW if you want to ease up on the sales pressure, tell them that you lost your job the previous week and that while you are sure you will be back to work soon, it might be best if you waited but that you would love to find out all the information on timeshare that you can.
