File sharing music lawsuits? How many songs are these people sharing that they get sued?
Q. I read somewhere that like over 30 million Americans file share music. How can the RIAA sue this many people? The people that they are suing, how many songs are they sharing? Is it people who download or specifically share?
Asked by Womb Buster - Sat Sep 8 23:16:39 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The thing is, they know how many people do this, but they don't know who. People get found out when they use computers on a certain network, like college students using their computers on the colleges network get found out if they use file sharing programs, and the college either punishes them, or tells the appropiate people to sue the students. How many songs? Well, that depends on the person. Some people get all their songs by file sharing, others only have a few. But regardless of how many songs they've downloaded, they are still able to be sued. And many thousends of dollors too.

How can I get a three year old to understand the concept of sharing?
Q. My little brother always wants something from other kids, and they share. When it comes to him sharing, he will not share. He is three years old and my parents also want him to share. He will rarely share, and we are trying to make him understand the concept of sharing. Any ideas? Thanks!

A. I've seen preschool teachers deal with this. Even when kids don't own the toys they think possession gives them the right to not share. Instead of forcing the kids to share or to get their heads around a very abstract concept, they suggest taking turns or negotiation. For instance: "Do you want that doll? You could wait until Maddie is done with it." "Do you want that car? What could you give Jake if he gives the car to you?" They also pick up on sharing from their peers at about the time it becomes important to be considered someone's "friend" - probably not much longer if your little brother is 3. Most kids get it by 4.

What age should a brother and sister stop sharing a room?
Q. My daughter is 10 and my son is 9. We have a 2 bedroomed house which means that they have to share a bedroom. My daughter is starting to mature and i think that she should have her own space but the council(who we rent our house from) think that its still ok for them to share a room and wont give us a 3 bedroomed house yet. We can't afford to buy a house. What do you think? Do you think they are still ok to be sharing?
Asked by Mhari B - Thu Oct 1 09:42:45 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In my opinion, children of opposite genders should typically have their own room the moment they are able to, or show signs of needing privacy. I have seen this happen as early as 5 or 6 years of age. However, the critical point is puberty. Puberty brings many changes which are embarrassing to a young child. In order to help the child cope better, I suggest you discuss implications of puberty and the awkwardness of some of the changes with a empathetic member of the council. If not, a) As a temporary arrangement, have the younger child sleep in your room while you move into the living room or b) See if a part of the house may be partitioned using a chinese screen for the boy and give the girl her own room.

A. iTunes 9: At Home With Home Sharing The Home Sharing feature introduced in iTunes 9 has been a long time coming. Of course, there was always the option of sharing your library on your home network. This allowed you to play streaming music from one computer on others via iTunes. It works well enough for what it is, but Home Sharing does that, and much more. Share More Media First of all, you can share much more than just music between computers. Movies, music videos, and TV shows are all now playable on any machine in your network you authorize via Home Sharing. Authorization is simple, but requires you to have an iTunes account, and to have authorized the computer in question to play media associated with that account. Once that s done, [cont.]

How come iTunes home sharing works with some songs, but not others?
Q. I'm using home sharing to get songs from one laptop over to the other since I got a new laptop... Everything was working out fine and I started to copy over some songs. About half of the songs copy over to the other laptop perfectly, but some songs say that this computer is not authorized when it really is. There is no correspondence between songs bought on the iTunes store online and songs imported from CD's. What gives?

A. Home Sharing never seems to work quite the way it's supposed to. Just IM the files and then import them from the desktop to iTunes.

Sharing a room Whats a good Material to use as a wall?
Q. I am going to be sharing a room in an apt. I like my privacy and my friend does to so I am going to get a few 2x4's cut them in half and put door hinges on them so they can stand securely from the floor to the ceiling. This will give me good beams but I need some kind of cheap thick material to create the actual wall with. (it will stretch from beam to beam and would prefer something that looks good) The wall wouldn't cause any damage to the room and would be easy to take down.

A. I'm a network engineer with over 30 years of experience. Yes. there are multiple things you can do for this. Switches / Routers / DSL Modems. There really is very little distinction between them now, many of them are capable of performing the exact same functions, so when someone says routing table, etc. etc., keep in mind you might be able to do it on any one of them. You could apply QOS for a specific hardware port on your switch, or apply port (channels) filters on all except the one you want to do viewing on. make sure you have a 100 mb connection all the way from your viewing PC to you DSL modem. Including that the switch and ports connecting them are 100 mb also. You can also adjust the MTU settings on your viewing PC, to… [cont.]

Can file sharing sites steal files off my computer?
Q. I share a computer with other people and use file sharing sites like Mediafire. Can sites like this steal documents off my computer? And if I share the computer, can it access files that even I have no access to?
Asked by ichigootaku01 - Fri Nov 20 17:16:23 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The short answer is no. Mediafire, in particular, requires that you upload media before it's actually shared. If it did post files without your permission, the site would be considered malicious and therefore illegal. I included a link with more information about mediafire in particular. It will give you a better idea about how this site and sites like it work. I hope this helps. :)
