I'm in California and I know that our Housing Authority also works with non-profits to connect people who want to house share. Check in with your local housing authority, human services agency or community center. Often senior people will look for room mates who will pay less or no rent in return for their services - help with grocery shopping and errands plus a little help around the house. This is a great way to lower your rent and they get your assistance. this is a version of what you are looking for but they only work locally.
